Recently we had a group at the guesthouse who was fleeing from a city several hours away. At 3:00 in the morning, they were awakened to several armed robbers trying to enter their house. Thankfully there was a backdoor, so the group ran – barefoot – into the woods behind the house. Pitch black everywhere.
The robbers chased them, guns out and ready to fire. The group ran as fast as they could, weaving in and out of trees, behind broken down walls, until they finally found a place where they could hide. Unfortunately, one of the people in their group who was bringing up the rear fell onto the ground. The robber chasing him was too close behind for him to get back up or hide. So all he could do was sit as quiet as possible, hoping not to be seen. What happened next was I’m sure a miracle. The robber stopped within five feet of him and was shining his flashlight everywhere – but NEVER EVEN SAW HIM! Wow, that makes me think of the prayer, “God, make blind eyes see and SEEING EYES BLIND.”
Thankfully the robbers eventually went back to the house, stealing only a few things. Everyone was okay – minus a missing toenail, fingernail, and lots of scrapes and bruises. The group packed up and drove to our guesthouse the next day.
Here’s the other amazing thing. We have seen time and time again how perfectly God matches up who we have staying at the guesthouse at the same time. Well, that day along with this group, we had a group of five big, strong, tattooed men here. They were all EX-CRIMINALS, DRUG-DEALERS, PEOPLE WHO HAD SPENT TIME IN JAIL. Now they had each given their lives up to Christ, and are totally changed people. They have started a church, and they go around the country speaking about God’s love and how He transformed them.
Before we knew this group would be fleeing to our guesthouse, we had planned a night of worship and singing and prayer. So all the guests joined in. And guess who prayed and prayed for this group who had been robbed? THE EX-CRIMINALS, DRUG-DEALERS, PEOPLE WHO HAD SPENT TIME IN JAIL. They prayed for each of the group members, AND the thieves – to be transformed and give their lives to Christ. ANOTHER AMAZING THING THAT COULD HAVE ONLY BEEN PLANNED BY GOD!
Ryan and I are blessed to be a part of what God is doing through the guesthouse. Please pray for this group as they recover emotionally and physically, and for the thieves to be changed people – as we know is possible through Christ.
