I wanted to thank all of you who have been praying for our time here in Haiti. Especially those of you who have been praying specifically for us to make new friends and build relationships. It seems as though your prayers are being answered.
Meet Charlotte. She has been quite shy until last night. But thankfully she finally decided to come out and greet us and the other guests. It was a bit of a surprise visit, and there was lots of commotion, pictures being taken, and even laughter. She didn’t stay for long, and now we are not sure where she is residing in the meantime, but I’m sure she’ll be back to keep us company very soon.
Next meet Roger the Rat. Now Roger is kind of our night watchmen. After dark, he sneaks in through these holes in the screen that he recently chewed. He then explores the kitchen area, looking for a something to eat, as he rightfully should get a good meal while on the job. After that he wonders around the house keeping guard, and if anyone is awake that should be in bed sleeping, he just gives them a good scare so that they don’t do it again. We have heard reports that he was seen sleeping above the kitchen cabinets one night, but who could blame him? The night shift is tough to stay awake for. We have no photographs of him yet, but many eye witness accounts from the guests.
This next friend remains nameless, and I’m afraid he is in an unmarked grave outside the guesthouse right now. His purpose was purely entertainment, as all of the guests got quite a show as we were trying to catch him. I know that he has many friends that will be joining us throughout our time here, just for when we get bored and need to spice things up a bit.
Finally, we have many geckos crawling around the house to keep us company. This morning I went to make coffee, and there was one waiting for me on top of the coffee machine. There was another one on the light switch which ran away just as I was approaching. They sure are fast little creatures, and good jumpers too!
So, we are very thankful for our new friends, as there is never a dull moment in this house with them around. Hopefully you all will get a chance to meet them when you visit. 😀
