Last June Group Departs Haiti (lots of pictures!)

As mentioned earlier we had four groups back-to-back this June.

This last group had a youth group that had been preparing to come to Haiti for over two years.  They had done a camp back home where they all stayed in tents, had a limited supply of water, and other projects which showed a little glimpse into living in Haiti after the earthquake.  The adults and kids were ready for anything before they came to actually visit Haiti.  The kids were outstanding with jumping in and doing project work with zero complaining.

I got to know Todd a bit while he was here.  He did most of the photography and gave Troy and I a walk-through of Adobe Lightroom one afternoon!  So hopefully you will see better pictures from me in the future :-D  Though, I am only using my cell phone for most of my pics so I am a bit limited ;-D.

He has been writing a blog of the experience. You can read the blog here.  I wanted to highlight a paragraph from that blog:

Again, since we are being so customary, we broke our fast together with stuffed French toast in honor of one of the employee’s birthday. Evan is 29 today. Happy birthday, Evan. After our delicious breakfast (thank you, Melissa—seriously, it really was scrumptious), we were led in morning devotional by John McHoul again… He said that in this work, the mission can easily take the place of the gospel. Our primary purpose—always—is to the Gospel. And almost anything, whether it is here is Haiti or back in the states, can take the place of the Gospel. How many idols have I let take my time with Christ? He is dead right. If the mission work fails to take its lead from the Gospel, then it really isn’t a mission anymore, is it? I just had to put that out there since in my life I too easily let the world take over. Back to the devotional.

He was kind enough to share all the pictures that they took while here!  Below are just a small selection of pictures that came from Todd:

Playing games in the evening with the Lifetree group in Haiti We have a group working with Heartline!  We are grateful for this group!  They have done a fantastic job!  It has been fun getting to know them.  They have come with different ages and different abilities.  There are some older and then some from a youth group.  The team was split up between the different facilities.

  • OK Corral - Most people have been at the new Heartline property.  There is soooo much to be done out there.  Our big project is to make a space for the Men’s bakery.  Secretly it will be a men’s discipleship training.  Ok, maybe not so secret :-) .  We are preparing the area for the bakery to be built. The team is also painting, cleaning out wagon area, paint gate, and repairs at the school.
  • Maternity Center – The women in this group went and held babies, help sort pills, took blood pressure of the women coming for check-up.
  • Women’s Center – Clean branches out of yard, sand – paint – varnish tables, paint roof with roof paint.
  • Harbor House – Dig trench for to run water pipe. They helped paint a much needed area as well.
  • Guest House - We have so many things on our TODO list we just couldn’t get done.
    • The generator case was about to fall apart.  I was always afraid it was going to break while I was filling it up to slam on my head!  Now, it should be fixed!
    • Painting!  So much of this house needs to be painted.  With so many people coming in and out the walls have gotten worn.  It’s really everything from suitcases banging into them – to – the paint tearing off the walls from moisture.

Here are some pics from the guest house help!
