Travels Back From Haiti

We have been so blessed and honored to visit Port Au Prince and Heartline ministries.  What an incredible God we serve.  We make our travels back to the US today.  We have a lot to process and pray about.

There are so many stories upon stories of the tragedy.  At the same time there are equal and greater stories of hope, faithfulness, and courage.  To be honest, Melissa and I thought we would understand the poverty and culture – especially given our background of visiting Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Mexico.  When you go through life you continue to add new files to your “filing cabinet” of experiences.  In day to day life you experience new things and add those new files to your filing cabinet.  When a similar situation comes up again you can file through and pull out an old file, remember and process accordingly.

Upon visiting Haiti that whole filing cabinet can be completely tossed out.  Personally, I have never been stretched so much.  Remember Stretch Armstrong… you could stretch that guy pretty far, right!  God really brought me to my knees this week.  We have never seen anything like what we experienced this last week.  No video or photograph is going to truly portray the struggle and poverty.  These people have experienced huge devastation and yet continue to push through each day.  I have met a few people that have lost their entire family and yet they are able to face the day.

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. -Psalm 82:3

We will post pictures when we get back into the country.  The internet is pretty slow here and can’t upload all the pictures without taking a few days ;-) We look forward to sharing more details and pictures over the next couple days.
