Currently, we are thinking and praying for those in the path of Hurricane Sandy.
A lot of rain hit Haiti during the pass of Sandy. Rain.Rain.Rain.More.Rain. Thankfully we avoided the strong winds.
It’s amazing how in the States, we have better drainage systems in place, and this much rain would hardly affect us there. However in Haiti, I couldn’t even leave my neighborhood to go a few blocks due to the flooding.
One of the Haitian staff said, “Many people in Les Cayes and Cap Haitien died from the constant raining of Sandy. Houses fell and there were mud slides during the night.”
Some information from others:
- Death toll from Sandy in Haiti is now 51, says the Office of Civil Protection.
- Here is some footage of houses being washed away by the river (2 minutes into the video). This place is only a few minutes from the Guest House.
- The prime minister has said, “We will now sit to look at the action plan [...] We have in term of emergency vouchers 120,000 people that we will help in 5 departments, yesterday, we decided to add 130 million Gourdes on the emergency program to assist the populations. Today we will try to get the number of emergency voucher recipients to 200,000.
