Simple Faith

Simple faith. What if we were a people known for just loving God and loving others?

For a few years I went to an ultra-conservative baptist school.  How you looked on the outside was very important.  The school was a great school in many ways, a problem, though was with everyone expecting to appear very mature, pure and spiritual.  Appearing without blemishes.  Christians can think it’s important that other people think you’re mature, pure and spiritual. Yet really when you look at us – people are messy. I believe it’s important that people know that you’re not with out problems.

We need faith that is authentic.

Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread. – D. T. Niles quotes

What a great quote!  We are merely pointing others to the place where we found food.

Matt and I used to do a lot of fishing when we lived back in the states.  Matt was the brains behind it all, I more tagged along.  I remember after a great catch we would come back to our camp and start filleting the fish.  Times when we had a big catch, other men would start to gather around seeing all the fish and start to ask questions.  Where did you go?

As the quote says, let’s – point to the food – especially not to ourselves as saints or pretending we are something lofty and have it all figured out.  Matt and I weren’t anything special because we had a good catch.  In fishing, we didn’t have it figured out either, sometimes we had no clue why we ended up with lots of fish and another boat didn’t.

We are just a beggar who found an everlasting food, a treasure!  Let’s tell other’s where to find this same food. We will still struggle, be messy and hard to deal with at times.  I believe one of the things that turn people away from Jesus is our dishonesty.  Especially about the way we live and what we tell people about our lives.

Let’s take off the suit coat and tie and be real and authentic with others.  It will be difficult at first and make us vulnerable.  As we share our struggles we also share our love for God and love for others.

Simple faith.

God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field for years and then accidentally found by a trespasser. The finder is ecstatic—what a find!—and proceeds to sell everything he owns to raise money and buy that field. – Matt 13:44
