We arrived in Haiti this morning at 11am. It was a bit strange going from MN timezone into FL timezone and then back again. The whole re-routing to Ft. Myers ended us getting into our hotel at 12pm and then getting up to leave at 6am 🙂 We are happy we made it safely, thank you God!
Once we got off the plane, they had someone with a sign that said “Heartline” and “Alberts” on it! We made it to the right country 🙂
We hopped in a car and had a crazy ride around town while we visited some of the ministries main buildings and spots. Things are only a few miles away but it takes over anywhere between 10 minutes to half an hour to drive the distance. It reminded me of some of the pictures I saw from India (just not as congested).
We visited so many places this afternoon, not sure I can remember them all. We went to visit John’s house first. He has a nice place and I got excited that he has a motorcycle. It’s a Chinese motorcycle 250cc with dirt tread tires. Also randomly found out that he hosted Greg Boyd at his place when they came down to visit.
John is older and has two kids. They are both in FL. The daughter is going to get married this next year and is in the medical field. John is the main pastor of a English speaking church. He is looking for someone to replace him as the main pastor. I will find out more about the church tomorrow when we visit.
Since the earthquake they have been building new houses for people to live in. We went and visited a plot of land they have purchased and built three houses on so far. They are currently finishing the septic system before they have the families move in. World Vision has also built many houses in the same area. You get the sense that families are very happy to have a fresh start.
After that we visited another plot of land that will eventually be another maternity center. The plan is that it will be 7,000 square ft. Apparently, this place was an old restaurant which served american style food. John said it was his favorite place to eat but the Haitians didn’t like it because it was to open. Groups that come down have been helping with construction in this new area.
Then that takes us to the Guest House! I will have to save this one for tomorrow. Going to have dinner now.
Love you all!
