First Haiti Guest House Christmas Party

Melissa and her parents organized the first annual Christmas party for all the workers here at the Heartline Guest House.

1.  Lunch

IMG_0290.JPG We have been noticing that when we have pizza for dinner, the next day all the left overs  are gone by breakfast.  The Haitians seem to love pizza as much as Americans 🙂  They end up eating all the left overs!  So because of that, we decided to have homemade pizza for our Christmas party.  Before eating we read the Christmas story, Luke 2, from the Creole Bible.

2. Games

John & Melissa organized a bunch of games which had prizes!  The very professional wild games included cookie stacking contents, golf putting, and a marshmallow run!  It was fun to see the workers smiling and having such a great time!

3. Presents

IMG_0222.JPG It was probably the first time they have opened Christmas presents – ever!  John (Melissa’s dad) observed that while they opened up each of their gifts, they were very meticulous opening the presents and saved the wrapping paper after opening.  The presents were all donated by Melissa’s family, their Bible study members, and our MN friends.  Thank you so much to everyone for being a part of this wonderful celebration!  We wish you could have been here to see the joy on their faces!

Wergsy was thanking us for the party and said, “It’s only God who can thank you enough”.  Wow, what a statement?!

Happy Birthday dearest Jesus… We love you and we are so grateful you rescued, healed, and restored us.

  1. What a fabulous idea! The pictures that you shared are fantastic. and by the way …do you have any idea where I can get Creole/English Bibles? Please let me know. Thanks and God bless you.

  2. Hee hee hee! I loved the race with the marshmallows! We miss all the fun we have when we are with you both, but I’m glad that the workers get a glimpse of how fun the Alberts are!!

    • Kathy – so glad you enjoyed the photos! Now that you know all of them! It was fun – the ladies who were working that day changed into their nice clothes just for the party and then changed back into scrubs again! You could tell that it was something very special for them. Most of all we wanted to stress the love of christ by reading the story of Jesus birth. We know not all of our workers go to church so hopefully they will continue to see, hear, and feel the love of our father through us and others at the guest house.

    • Britney – Great to hear from you! Thanks for the encouragement! Hard during Christmas but it has been such a blessing to have Melissa’s family down here!

  3. Oreo cookie stacking with Chief John John! That’s classic! I remember hosting a game show with the chief a long time ago!!! Hope you are not letting your Dad serve them grits for breakfast. Miss you tons, glad you had a great Christmas!

    Love,
    Katie, Aaron, and Drew!

  4. It is wonderful to see and hear how you made Christmas meaningful and fun for others as well as yourselves. We missed having you home for Christmas, but your presence via Skype on Christmas Day was a special treat.

  5. Ryan and Melissa,
Don’t ever doubt that you are in the right place. God is using the two of you in incredible ways. Can’t wait to come back and be taken care of by you!
    Michelle
