Today we went to shop at the tin market. The Guest House has a shop which has bags, neck-lesses, and other things from Haitian Creations. It also has these great tin creations. It is really cool to see.
Next we went over to see the maternity center. This is a place for women having a baby (obviously, right 😀 ). The big thing though is that they go through a program to learn more about how to properly have and care for a baby. For example, a lot of women will go to a local unregistered doctor and get medicines that can end up killing the baby. It is very sad but since most people do not have any education they do not know any better. A part of the program is to help these women have the baby properly and to also educate them along the way. This includes being able to minister to them by building relationship and sharing the gospel. It is such an awesome hands on project that follows the women through even after the birth to learning have to nurse properly.
Little clip from Melissa (some repeat from above):
We spent time at the maternity center where about 30 women who just had babies get education on how to raise them, receive a good meal with protein, and vitamins. We got to relax this afternoon and take a nap, and the cook made us hamburgers and french fries for dinner. We have had only one guest this week (which is rare) but it has been fun visiting with a total stranger, along with the current people who run the guest house who are from Australia. Everyone has such interesting stories.

Thank you for giving us updates! I am so happy that the Lord opened this door for you and called you to this place. I am totally enjoying reading about God already working through you to touch the lives of others. I am praying for your protection and for both of you to be effective vessels for the power and Spirit of the Lord to work through you. (This all sounds really “church-y”, but seriously….this is what real life is all about!).
Janet – Thank you for the encouraging words! Thank you so much for your prayers! We have an incredible living and breathing God! What a privileged you and I…and all Christians have in serving under Him. Any prayers are so important and we are so grateful as we continue on this journey and listen to God’s will for our life.
