Port Au Prince Fellowship

This is my second church service I have attended in Haiti. Port Au Prince Fellowship is possibly the only English church in the city and thus attracts American visitors on any given Sunday.  They began ‘offering’ and the first thing the pastor says to the many visitors,  “We don’t want your money.  If you do want to give we ask that you write on the envelope ‘Missions’.  We will then designate this to support our missionaries.”  At this point, I am thinking, “Wait a minute… I am so confused.  The pastor is saying to support missionaries in other parts of the world?”  Then he says,

We currently give 40% of our money towards missions.  I would like it to be much higher.  We want 80% eventually.

I am in Haiti still, right?!

What an example!  You could reasonably and arguably justify using the money to build a bigger church so that the 75 people standing outside could be inside, or buy cushions for the benches, or do any number of things.  Instead, they have put a priority on giving to missions.  I am blown away.  We are in one of the poorest places on this planet and this church is giving to missions for places where the church is being persecuted!

    • Hey guys! Thanks for your comment! Hope you are enjoying the new pad your living in! Do you have pictures of it by chance? Take care!

  1. This was one of my first observations visiting Port-au-Prince Fellowship as well.

    So refreshing!

This church is doing amazing things for God’s kingdom in the world!

    • Robbie – I have heard your name around. I don’t think we have met yet though. Do you regularly go to PAP Fellowship? I just blog-stocked you and see you are living in PAP. We went to the early service this morning! A little tougher to get up that early!

      • My wife Irene and I live next door to the chapel, so you could say we went to the early service today as well. . .box seats. . .
never had to leave the house. Loved worship this morning. . . We attend a “House Church” most Sundays, but occasionally drop in. I teach High School Bible at QCS. Hopefully we can meet and connect sometime. . . Hope your time in Haiti is going well. Glad to have stumbled onto your blog and appreciate your comment on mine as well.

  2. well, when i first visiting PAPF, i was elated and i was looking forward to being there coz i’ve heard a lot about this english church. and now this is my home church, when i’m at PAPF it feels like i’m at home and my life is not the same. sometimes when pastor John is telling the gospel i feel somthing inside that push me, that pressurize me into accepting Jesus but i can’t i’d like to that definitively but i don’t know what to do. i feel my faith needs more God’s word.
